WINTER DRIVE-IN – ONE OF THE FEW LEFT

With the advent of in-home entertainment and internet programming, the opportunity of experiencing a drive-in movie has all but disappeared.

But not in Wintersville, Ohio where one of only 317 drive-in movie theaters in the country still offers this unique form of entertainment.

The Winter Drive-In at 400 Luray Drive (just off Rt. 43) opens on Friday, April 26 with “Avengers End Game” on its huge outdoor screen. From the comfort of their autos, viewers can watch top-rated movies at the cost of $8.50 for adults and $4.00 for children.

This year will the Winter Drive-In will celebrate its 50th anniversary during the weekend of August 10 and 11. On one of the screens they will feature the original opening day movies from 1969: “With Six You Get Egg Roll” starring Doris Day and Rock Hudson and “Charro” starring Elvis Presley – at the same opening date prices.

The Winter Drive-In prides itself in having high quality food and beverages in its concession stand. As with most theaters, the income from the food concessions is a major revenue source for the many costs associated with operating.

But movies are not the only entertainment to be enjoyed at Winter Drive-In. There will be various events throughout the season and special discounts such as free admission for moms on Mothers’ Day and dads on Fathers’ Day, a Classic Car Show and Halloween Trunk and Treat.

On May 11, the drive-in will feature a cult classic horror show and July 13 will have Christmas in July with “an ugly t-shirt contest.”

Season movie passes are available as well as party packages for both kids and adults.
