WILLIAM PITTENGER MARKERDEDICATION
A new Ohio historical marker will be dedicated SATURDAY, AUGUST 2nd, at 2:00PM in Ruritan Park between Rts. 213 & 152 in Knoxville, OH
The Marker will honor Civil War veteran William Pittenger, one of the first men to be awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions as part of Andrew's Raiders. The Medal was awarded by Secretary of War Edwin Stanton to Pittenger and five others upon their release from a Confederate prison camp. They had been captured, along with others, during a daring mission under James J. Andrews, a Virginian and Union spy.
A reception will be held following the ceremony at "The Grange", just north of the park.
